My plan until the summer of 08 is to build a complete forum system with my users that would also like to learn. Here is a some what complete list about the things that you will create:
Learn how to....
Use sessions
Create a user system
Create a login system
Create a register system
Create a administration control panel
Create a forum/category views
Create a topic view
Create new topics
Create new replies
Create modify profile
---Signature
---Join date
---Custom profile fields
--- more...
Create a posts/topic search engine
Create word filter
Create lost password
Create ban system (ip,username,emails)
You will be able to have a complete forum in a certain amount of months and then you will learn how to secure your software as we go. Hopefully the first tutorial will start somewhere after Thanksgiving because I'm busy, but it will be a good start for everyone. We will generate steps on getting free hosting and generate on how to set up sql.
Minimum requirements:
Must know basics of php
Must created at least one program(shout box, guest book,etc..)
---This will help you understand the fundamentals of the forum software it self.
Know how to comment
Must know how to space your code
Have patience to learn how to fix your own problems or just attempting to fix your problems before coming for help meaning no "I don't understand, I don't get it" for perfection you must try it first, then get help. There will be a forum setup for To Build a Forum for our users after out first chapter tutorial.
Sessions, not chapters, will be based on the one after each other, so there could be over 300 session tutorials for building a forum software, or 50, doesn't matter :).
Disclaimer, there will be ignorant people who wants to crack/hack your software which we will try and prevent, but always, ALWAYS back up your sql. We will go about how to do this also in the first session of "To build a Forum" :).
See you soon guys.
Goals:
1-3 Sessions a week.
